Week 4

Week 4

As the next international breaks looms on the horizon, the leagues are starting to take shape. Plenty of movements up and down the tables so far, and with more than three-quarters of the season to go, plenty of opportunities for managers to make movements up their table. Unless you are one of the teams rooted at the bottom of the table, of course. In which case, stay there, help your fellow MvF’ers out and take the ignominious title of worst player!

In the Head-to-Head league, Richard Harrop and Benny WQ have now tasted defeat, however Martin Satterthwaite continues to amaze everyone as he remains the only unbeaten manager in the league, and proudly sits atop the table. Interestingly, he is the only manager in the top half of the table to still be below 300 points and is yet to face any of the pre-season favourites. At the bottom 6 managers find themselves with a solitary win so far and will be looking for points in the next round to start moving away from the bottom.

In the classic league, Tayfun keeps top spot and opens his lead slightly. Martin Bennett leapfrogs Richard Harrop into second place, and Simon Jewell’s impressive weekly score sees him jump into 4th spot, just behind. Goose remains bottom of the table but is catching those around him. Ben Martin, Adam Ratcliffe, and David Hodder will need to find some hidden gems if they don’t want to swap places!

In the Super 6 league, the sneaky mid-week rounds caught a few players out again who failed to submit an entry. It has cost David Hodder first place, as he sees both James Cribbens and Dan Terry go above him. Rob G has moved away from the bottom after a few good rounds, but Alistair Campbell will now be praying his predictions for this weekends game go his way, as long as he remembers to submit them!

Week 2 & 3

Week 2 & 3

Nothing more certain in life, than an unwanted international break. Just as teams start to purr (or, as in the case of Manchester United, when the wheels start to wobble and fall off!), so comes an international break. Well, glad that one is over – but just as sure as night follows day, the next international break come in just a few weeks time. Wildcard anyone?

In the Head-to-Head league, 2 managers maintain a 100% record so far, Richard Harrop and Benny WQ. Both face managers this week who have lost 2 of their opening 3 fixtures, so both should be expected to maintain their current form. Surprisingly, Martin Sattherthwaite also remains unbeaten, securing 2 wins and a draw thus far. Can this form continue? Martin, is like an elephant in a tree – funny to look at, everyone is amazed it is there, but we all know it will come crashing down anytime soon. At the bottom of the table Joe Davison picked up his first point of the season to join Chris McCarthy on a solitary point, meaning that all managers have now scored a point in the league.

In the classic league, Tayfun continues to sit at the top of the table, but sees his gap closed by Shane Bennett. At the bottom of the table, Goose, is rock-solid in last place. Surprisingly, doubling his score at this early stage wouldn’t propel him into 1st place! However, given we have only played 3 rounds, there is still plenty of time to change this and a few good weeks should see him move sharply up the table.

In the Super 6 league, Dan Terry has had a good few rounds so far, and see himself sitting 7 points clear already at the top. Rob G finds himself propping all others at the moment, and will need a few rounds of good scores (or others around him forgetting to play!) to begin catching up. Some interesting fixtures this week to predict, with both City and Liverpool widely tipped to win, and likely score highly, as well as the North London Derby on Sunday!

Week 1

Week 1

After an exciting first round of premier league matches that sees Brighton reach the summit and Everton rooted to the bottom of the table, the dust settles on the first FPL round of the season as well.

In the Head-to-Head league, current title holder Stuart Skinner was left Sith Faced by newcomer Liam Powell, being defeated by a single point. Elsewhere, we saw our first draw of the season, with Chris McCarthy and John Turner unable to seize the initiative. Martin Satterthwaite will feel somewhat fortuitous with his win over David Hodder, as he only managed a meagre 41 points. No manager used any chips in Round 1, but will anyone succumb to the allure of the ‘Wildcard’ in Round 2?

In the Classic league, Tayfun Avci sits at the top with an impressive 88 points and is just inside the global top 70,000. Liam Tritton is not far behind on 81, but those 7 points equate to 200,000 places on the global leaderboard. Great work chaps for the first round of the season! At the bottom of the table, Gavin Horton scored 30 points, just below David Hodder on 32, but with 37 rounds still to go, it really is all to play for. Just like the H2H league, no-one used any chips in this round.

Like last season, the first prizes can already be awarded. This season, there were a fair few decent team names floating about, which included Hawk Tuanzebe, Jurrien Timberlake, Curious Jorginho, and Areola Borealis. However, the award for best team name of this season goes to Shane Bennett’s Cobra Kai Havertz. Of course, with winners must come losers, and we have some really, really bad team names this time out. Pick of the bunch this time is Alfie Hibbert, with his unimaginative ‘FPL XI’. This is closely followed by Martin Satterthwaite who went for MS13, which is either a reference to his initials and preferred shirt number, or an international crime gang originating from LA. I will let you decide, but have you ever seen Martin and Jaffrey Dahmer in the same room?

In the Super 6, Dan Terry carries on his form from last season as he starts this season with an impressive 19 points. David Hodder may not be able to select 11 players to score points, but he can predict scores, as he is just behind Dan on 16 points. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Rob Gould and Chris McCarthy could only manage 4 points, but even that is better than Ali Campbell who didn’t even enter!
